This tour is suitable for visitors that after visiting Rome want to spent also a full day off the Capital in the relaxing Tuscany, visiting some of its most famous towns, visiting also characteristic medieval villages, surrounded by the beauties of nature and tasting some of the best wines of the area.
The tour will start from your hotel and within 2 hours we will be in San Gimignano whose medieval walls and narrow streets are typical of Tuscan towns.The landscape from the top of the hill is breathtaking.
Today, fourteen towers remain, reminding us of the Guelph and Ghibelline rivalry that caused a civil war between the families and citizens of San Gimignano that was narrated by Dante Alighieri, the most Italian poet of the Middle Ages, author of the Divine Comedy.
Lunch in Monteriggioni, an historic village, surrounded by walls that date back to the 13th century. These walls protected this charming little town during the frequent wars of that period. Here you will be able to taste local dishes and drink an excellent glass of Tuscan wine. You will walk among the narrow streets of this charismatic little village and you will feel the atmosphere of those days. Dante Alighieri mentioned this eccentric village so apart from all the others in ‘The Divine Comedy’.
We will arrive in Siena in the early afternoon, wandering through the back-streets of Siena you'll soon be captivated by its history and culture, which is still very much part of everyday life in the city. Visit the imposing Cathedral of Siena "Duomo" and Piazza del Campo where the famous Palio horse race takes place twice a year, which is held in order to celebrate the miraculous apparition of the Virgin near the old houses that belonged to Provengano Salvani. You'll enjoy also a walk through the Jewish Ghetto.
Because Siena has very narrow and winding streets, most of the sights must be visited on foot.
